Microsoft first announced Office 2019 in September 2017, noting that it will be publicly available in the second half of 2018 with previews being available in the second quarter of the year.
The announcement was surprising since most did not anticipate release of another office product given Office 365 was touted as the future.
Some features that were then said to come with Office 2019 include new user and IT capabilities for customer not ready for the cloud, new formulas and charts for Excel, visual animation features for PowerPoint and server improvements for better IT security and manageability.
Most important to note though, is that Office 2019 will only work with Windows 10. This is in line with the fact that Microsoft will be ending extended support for Windows 7 in 2020 and Windows 8.1 in 2023.
However, this will not affect Office for Mac as Microsoft treats it as a separate product with different release dates.
What will be included in Microsoft office 2019
Office 2019 will include regular client apps Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and server versions of Exchange, SharePoint and Skype for Business.
It is also noteworthy that the client apps will not come in installation packages. Instead, they will be downloaded as the user runs the installer.

Microsoft will provide support for Office 2019 for five years, after which there will be 2 more years of extended support. This is a departure from the usual 10 years of support Microsoft provides for Office suites.
