Working at IEBC Kenya as a polling official: Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission elections officers (Presiding Officers (POs), Deputy Presiding Officers (DPOs), Clerks and security officers) are responsible for the administration of elections during general or by-elections voting processes.

Some of the basic duties of election officials include accounting for all voting materials, issuing ballot papers to voters, assisting voters that may require help with voting, and carrying out initial counts of votes at the end of the voting process amongst others.

IEBC appoints various elections officials who are involved in the administration of the elections process. There are various requirements needed for each position that all applicants must meet. The requirements include:

• Must be a resident of the Ward that you are applying for.
• Must be a Kenyan citizen with high integrity.
• Degree or diploma from a recognized academic institution.
• Numeracy and computer skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Data analysis and computation skills.
• Good report writing skills.
• Ability to maintain and take care of election data
• Should not be affiliated to any political party.
• Must be available during the election period

IEBC logistics officer job Requirements

They include:

• Must be Kenyan citizen with high integrity
• A minimum academic qualification of a diploma or degree from a recognized institution
• Knowledge in logistics, distribution, and retrieval of material is necessary
• Previous experience will be an added advantage.

IEBC Returning officers job requirements

These are:

• Must be a Kenyan citizen with high integrity.
• Computer skills
• good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must have a diploma or degree in social science from a recognized institution
• Must be a resident of the ward that you are applying for.
• A minimum of six years of experience working in the private or public sector.
• Must be available during the election period.
• Be willing to work in any place across the country as assigned.

IEBC elections Counting and Voting clerks Job Requirements

 To be a clerk you have to meet the following minimum requirements:

• Must be a Kenyan citizen with high integrity.
• A minimum academic requirement of diploma in ICT.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Good report writing skills.
• Must be available during the election period.
• Minimum score of C- in KCSE.
• Minimum experience of 2 years in ICT.

We are not sure whether this has changed, but in 2017 general elections, IEBC paid its clerks ksh. 1,000 in a day from the day they begun training to the last day of elections. Payments are normally issued via KCB Bank.
