The county government of Uasin Gishu County through its education ministry yesterday held a bursary disbursement award ceremony at the county headquarters in Eldoret town. A total of Ksh 95million was released to support 13,962 students from different tertiary institutions.
Uasin Gishu County Assembly Chair for Education committee, Hon. Noah Kemboi proposed that the less fortunate in the society should be given a bigger share of this cake. He said that the kitty highly targets the orphans. The Chairman added that the county government is seeking to increase the bursaries allocation to Ksh. 130 million in the future.
Education CECM Joseph Kurgat on his part expressed his gratitude to Uasin Gishu County boss Hon. Jackson Mandago EGH, and the members of county assembly MCAs for the academic support they are showing in the county. Mr. Joseph Kurgat announced that their efforts in the academic sector has so far seen 99,772 students benefit from the funding since 2013.
Chief Officer for Education Jane Njuguna, also showered Mandago’s administration with praises for prioritizing bursaries. She thanked the ward committees for working with the Department of Education to bring success in the bursary programme.
The government of Kenya has been working to ensure that every child in the country gets good education. This has been seen by the recent moves by education CS Prof, Magoha who has been going round the country to ensure 100% transition from primary to secondary education.
