TSC on Mathematics requirement for employment as a teacher

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Director for legal Cavin Anyuor today presented a proposal for changes to the entry qualifications of teachers who want to be employed as TSC teachers. Below is what Cavin had to say.

TSC Mathematics Requirement for Teachers Employment

TSC proposes that Teachers should score a mean grade of C plain and at least a D (plain) in mathematics and a C- (minus) in English.

TSC says that the proposals are based on data from previous exam performances, which shows that the worst-performing subjects in KCSE or KCPE are mathematics and languages.

TSC also proposes the scraping of P1 certificates and recommends employing only teachers with a diploma certificate and above.

TSC is currently consulting with the Ministry of Education on what they should do with students who are in university pursuing related courses that may be affected by the changes
