LAPSSET Project: The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) in Kenya starts at the port of Mombasa and runs along the Northern corridor through Nairobi, Kisumu to Malaba.
First Phase of the standard gauge rail way passes through ;
- Kwale County
- Taita Taveta County
- Makueni County
- Machakos County
- Kajiado county County
The second phase will pass through;
- Nakuru County
- Narok County
- Bomet County
- Nyamira County
- Kisumu county.
The first Phase of the project construction begun on 12th December 14 2014 and will be in operation by July 2017.
Fincanicing of the Standard Gauge Railway in Kenya
The first phase (Mombasa – Nairobi) of the project is estimated to cost a total of ksh. KShs. 327 billion. 90% of the project (KShs. 294.3 billion ) is financed by a loan from the EXIM Bank of China and the rest is contributed by the government of Kenya.
