What follows is the online process of verification, certification, and equation of qualifications in Kenya. International students who want to study in Kenya or Kenyan students with foreign qualifications need to have their academic certificates certified.
The entire procedure takes place online through the Kenya National Recognition, Equation, and Verification portal (KNQA).
How to certify qualifications online in Kenya
Below is the step by step procedure:
- Visit KNRA Portal: https://rev.knqa.go.ke/
- Register for an account or log in
- Click apply for services
- Select education level
- Click proceed to submit the application
- Fill the application form
- Upload your academic certificate and other required documents
- Add certificate
- Click the submit application button
- Select whether you want Recognition, Equation or Verification
- Then click proceed
- If you have selected equation, attach an affidavit from an Advocate and/or Commissioner for Oaths (for Kenyan Citizens)
- Then click proceed to make payment
- Select Payment mode (Mpesa, Credit Card or Bank Deposits)
- Confirm and complete payment
- Your application will be on pending status and you will be notified once it has been approved.
Charges
Recognition fee: Ksh 500 (locals) and Ksh 10,000 (foreigners)
Verification Fee: Ksh 1000 (local) and Ksh. 3000 (foreigners)
Equation fees: Ksh. 5000 (locals) and Ksh. 10,000 (foreigners)
Requirements for Doctorate Qualifications Verification
For Doctorate certificate Recognition, Equation or Verification the following documents are required.
- Doctorate certificates with transcripts
- Doctorate thesis
- And all master’s degree verification documents mentioned below

For a master’s degree, you need to upload the following documents.
- Master’s Degree certificate with transcripts
- Master’s Degree thesis
- Bachelor’s Degree certificate or its equivalent
- Secondary school certificate or it’s equivalent
- Primary school certificates or its equivalent
- Any other academic certificates
Postgraduate diploma verification requirements
The following documents are required for postgraduate diploma qualification verification.
- Postgraduate Diploma certificate with transcripts
- Diploma certificates or its equivalent
- Bachelor’s Degree certificates or its equivalent
- Secondary school certificate or its equivalent
- Primary school level certificates or its equivalent
- Any academics certificate(s) that you hold
Bachelor’s Degree certification verification requirements
The following documents are needed:
- Bachelor’s Degree certificates or its equivalent
- Bachelor’s Degree transcripts
- Secondary school certificate or its equivalent
- Primary school certificates or its equivalent
- Any other certificate(s)
Diploma Certificate Equation
The following academic documents are required:
- Diploma certificates and transcripts
- Secondary school level certificate or its equivalent
- Primary school certificate or its equivalent
Craft, artisan, secondary and primary schools are also required to produce all the academic certificates that they hold.
