NTSA Traffic offence Fines and Penalties in Kenya

Lean about some of NTSA traffic offence penalties and fines in Kenya:  Every driver, passenger, pedestrian, and police officer is required to familiarize themselves with traffic regulations. The Traffic Act lays out the rules, regulations, and penalties related to the road users. Here is a guide to some of the basic NTSA traffic violations and penalties.

Driving an unlicensed Car

The Traffic Law 130C (1) and (3) holds that anyone driving a PSV vehicle when they are not the licensed driver of the car will be liable to a fine of Kshs 5,000.

Operating a Vehicle That Has No Number Plate

Motorists who operate a vehicle with improperly place number plates or without any number plates will be liable to a fine of Kshs 10,000.

Obstruction

Any person who inconveniences drivers or motorists by causing obstructions on the road will be liable to a fine of Kshs 10,000.

Lack of  Lifesaver

The Kenya Traffic Rule 56 requires that all PSVs should have a fire extinguisher and lifesaver. However, anyone who fails to do so is liable to a fine of Kshs 2,000.

Using a Mobile Phone while Driving

Texting or making calls while on the move is a traffic offense. Violators are liable to pay a fee of Kshs 2,000.

Driving without L Sign (for new drivers)

If you have been issued with a driving license, you should place an L sign behind your car to indicate that you are a learner for 12 months from the date of issuance of your DL. Otherwise you will be liable to pay a fine of Kshs 1,000.

Lack of seat Belts

According to the Traffic Rules 22A (1) and (2), the owner of a PSV that has no seat belts shall be liable to pay Kshs 1,000 for each seat that does not have a safety belt. Passengers are also required to wear seat belts all the time or face paying a fine of Kshs 500.

 Driving an Uninsured Vehicle

Any motorist who operates a vehicle that is not insured is liable to pay a fine of Kshs 10,000. Every vehicle is supposed to have an insurance cover.
