The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced that starting June 1, 2033, drivers of public service vehicles (PSV) and commercial vehicles will be required to undergo a mandatory retest before their driving license can be renewed. This retest applies to drivers with endorsements in driving license classes B3, D1, D2, D3, C, C1, C2, and CD.
NTSA Retest for PSV and Commercial Drivers
The retest will be conducted for drivers renewing their smart driving licenses, which have a validity of 3 years. The test will take place at various NTSA driving test locations across the country. It will consist of written theory exams and oral submissions, assessing the drivers’ understanding of driving rules.
PSV and commercial drivers whose licenses have already expired can log in to the NTSA portal and apply for the retest. The application fee for the retest examinations is Kenya Shillings 1050, which can be paid through the ntsa portal after generating an invoice (you can log in to the NASA portal using your eCitizen portal account password and username).
NTSA Retest Results
Once the test is completed, drivers will receive their results within 24 hours through the ntsa portal. In the event of a failed retest, drivers will have the opportunity to re-sit the examination. Those who fail the test may be required to undergo refresher training at any driving school.
NTSA says the introduction of the retest exams aims to ensure that PSV and commercial vehicle drivers possess up-to-date driving skills and knowledge, ultimately reducing the number of accidents on our roads.
