Effective July 29, 2023, new mpesa charges, and rates were introduced by Safaricom. The new mpesa tariffs for transferring and withdrawing money through Safaricom agents or paybill numbers have been highlighted below.
Safaricom transaction charges increase
The June 2023 Budget statement that was read in parliament increased excise duty and other taxes on mobile money transactions through the Finance Bill. Consequently, Safaricom reviewed and increased mpesa charges to cover the costs.
New Mpesa Charges for Withdrawals through Agents
Below is a table with the amount it will cost you to withdraw money from any mpesa agent as per the new mpesa charges that were introduced on July 29, 2023. The mpesa rates are for registered users.

These are the new mpesa charges for paybill transactions only for the tariff where the business does not incur sending charges. Kindly note that Mpesa transaction charges to paybill differ according to the playbill number.
Till and Pochi La Biashara Charges
Below are the new charges for users transferring money from pochi la biashara and business till to customers. The table also contains the charges for transferring money to unregistered users.
Mpesa account and transaction limits
- The maximum mpesa account balance one can hold is Ksh.300,000
- The maximum amount you can transact through mpesa in a day is ksh. 300,000
- The maximum you can transact in a single install is Ksh. 150,000
