The government says that the primary goal of the National Open University is to address the issue of the high costs of university education in Kenya. By offering courses online, the university aims to significantly reduce the expenses related to admission, tuition fees, accommodation, transportation, and other costs incurred by students attending physical campuses. This will fulfill the dreams of students who aspire to pursue higher education but may be hindered by financial constraints.

The National Open University of Kenya also aims to promote inclusivity and accessibility in education. By adopting an online learning model, the university will enable students from all walks of life, regardless of their geographical location, to access quality university education. This approach will particularly benefit those living in remote areas or facing mobility challenges, as they will no longer be restricted by physical barriers in their pursuit of academic excellence.

The government says that you will be required to pay at least Ksh. 105,000 to pursue a degree a the OUK.
