HEF loan and scholarship to be disbursed after student admission

HEF loan and scholarship disbursement by ministry of education

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has indicated that students who applied for HEF loan and scholarships should expect to receive their disbursement after their admission. In this regard, CS Machogu has directed Universities to allow first-years who applied for HEF loans and scholarships to be admitted without paying fees.

CS Machogu was responding to questions raised by members of parliament on how students will report to University on Monday without government funding. HELB (now HEF) is yet to issue loans and scholarships to Universities that will start admitting government-sponsored students on Monday.

The CS noted that as of August 24, 2023, only 30% of students placed by KUCCPS have applied for government funding. The majority of the 70%  of those who have not applied indicate that they have been facing challenges with submitting their application using the HEF portal while others have opted not to apply for government funding.

The issue above only affects students who will report for admission next week and in September. Those who will report later than September should expect to receive their funding before admission day.
