Equity Bank to provide loans to 6000 small-scale farmers

Equity bank small scale farmers loan agreement

The Government of Kenya has signed a new financing agreement of Euro 2.5 million with Equity Bank and the German Government through the German Development Bank (KfW) to provide support to over 6,000 small-scale farmers in Kenya in establishing irrigation schemes.

The Subsidiary Financing Agreement was signed by Water Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alice Wahome, Treasury CS Prof. Njuguna Ndung’u, Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi, and Germany Ambassador Sebastian Groth at the Treasury building.

Speaking during the signing of the agreement, CS Prof. Ndung’u said the loan will initially facilitate the construction of five irrigation projects covering a total of 1,300 acres of land in Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Kirinyaga counties. The financing will benefit more than 1,500 farmers in the targeted areas.

Small-scale farmers in the targeted regions now have the opportunity to easily access loans from Equity Bank backed by the government
