Education CS George Magoha today (Monday 14th September 2020) held a meeting with education stakeholders where he indicated that they are re-looking at re-opening of schools (University, Colleges, TVET, Secondary and Primary schools).
Next Meeting Dates
Education stakeholders will hold another meeting before or on the 25th September 2020 to discuss on re-opening of schools. This is informed by the decrease in the number of COVID-19 cases reported in Kenya by the Ministry of Health.
When will schools re-open?
After the 25th September 2020 meeting, the education ministry will provide directives on how and when schools will re-open.
Challenges in re-opening schools
As emphasized by Prof. George Magoha, Social distancing in schools remains to be the major challenge.
The ministry of education is also looking at the modalities that it will use to issue face masks to vulnerable children and students from low-income families
We will publish a comprehensive update once the meeting has been held and the resolution made.
