Amabuko Mixed Secondary students admitted

Amabuko Mixed Secondary School students have today been admitted to Gucha Hospital, St . Catherine Ichuni Hospital, and Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment after complaining of stomach pains, vomiting, and diarrhea.

As of publishing this article, the number of students admitted to various hospitals in Kisii County is believed to stand at 70. Although the exact cause of the illness has not been made public by the government and the school, reports indicate that food poisoning might have caused the illness.

Over the past months, several students in various secondary schools in Kenya have been admitted to hospitals due to diseases related to poor sanitation and water supply.  The most recent viral case was that of Mukumu Girls which led to the death of 3 students and one school staff.

The Ministry of Health in partnership with the Ministry of Education and County Governments has stepped up its efforts to manage such outbreaks. Secondary schools have also been told to comply with public health standards.
