In a Gazette notice issued on October 31, 2024, the government has declared Friday, November 1, 2024, a public holiday in Kenya for the swearing-in of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. The announcement was made by Acting Interior Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi.
Kindiki Swearing in as Deputy President
Kindiki, who previously served as the Interior Minister, was appointed Deputy President after then-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was impeached by the Senate. Gachagua has filed a petition in court, arguing that the impeachment process did not follow proper legal procedures. The case is still being heard despite the swearing-in of Kindiki. If the court rules in favor of Gachagua, Kindiki’s appointment may be overturned, and Gachagua could be reinstated as Deputy President.
Will KCSE Exams Be Affected by the Holiday?
November 1 is a public holiday in Kenya. However, the Ministry of Education has announced that the ongoing KCSE exams will not be affected.
In a press release issued on October 31, 2024, the Cabinet Secretary for Education stated, “The Ministry of Education wishes to inform the public that the declaration of the holiday will not interrupt the ongoing KCSE examination papers scheduled for Friday, November 1, 2024.”
Members of the multi-agency examination administration teams have been instructed to report to work as scheduled to ensure that the examinations proceed without disruptions.
