The just concluded Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018 that was held in Las Vegas, USA, saw some truly awesome laptops showcased. Be it your laptop fetish is thinness, lightness, longer-lasting battery or powerful graphics, you are covered. Here are 5 we think are truly amazing
Lenovo Miix 630
Well, this beauty from Lenovo is not a laptop per se, but also a Windows tablet.
The device has a 12.3-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 1920×1280. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 system-on-a-chip processor. Graphics are powered by an Adreno 540 GPU.
The new type of processor promises more efficient power use, hence longer battery use. Lenovo promises that the device will give you up to 20 hours of use on a single charge.
The Miix 630 is expected to be available mid-year and will cost about Kshs. 85,000.
Acer Swift 7
The Swift 7 is an older model that has been revamped to become the world’s thinnest laptop.
The laptop has a 14-inch Full HD display and is impressionably thin at 8.98mm. It is powered by a Core i7 processor; an improvement from the erstwhile Core i5 processor.
It sports two USB Type-C 3.1 ports, a nanoSIM slot and a headphone jack.
Another highlight of the Swift 7 is 4G LTE connectivity.
The Acer Swift 7 will first go on sale in April 2018 and will set you back about Kshs. 180,000 once it lands on Kenyan soil.
Asus ZenBook 13
Asus’ selling point for this ultrabook is its lightness. Weighing only 985g; it takes laptop portability to another level.
The laptop sports a slim-bezel NanoEdge display that helps it achieve it’s 13.9mm thinness.
The display features a 13.3-inch 4K UHD touchscreen with a resolution of 3840×2160 (332ppi).
It is powered by 8th generation Corei7 CPU, has 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD.
It has 3 USB Type-C 3.1 ports, a microSD card reader 1 HDMI port.
Asus promises that the ZenBook 13 will give you up to 14 hours of battery life.
Although the official price is yet to be decided, it should be between Kshs. 140,000 and 150,000.
Dell XPS 13
The Dell XPS 13 is another laptop that has undergone significant redesign to ensure it remains among the most popular laptops.
The new Dell XPS 13 has scaled up display resolution to 4K. it is also thinner than its predecessor by 30 percent.
The device is powered by an 8th generation Corei7, has 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD strorage.
It has 3 USB Type-C 3.1 ports, a headphone jack and microSD card reader.
Another highlight of the device is the Dell Mobile Connect feature that allows you to see contacts and apps from your iOS or Android device.
The feature also allows you to receive text messages and calls from your phone.
According to Dell, the laptop can give you up to 19 hours of battery life on a single charge.
The new Dell XPX 13 will cost about Kshs. 125,000 once available in Kenya.
LG gram 13
LG was not to be left behind in the lighter and thinner laptop craze.
The LG gram 13 has a 13.3-inch Full HD IPS screen and only weighs 961g.
Other features include 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD storage and a fingerprint scanner.
Let not the thinness and lightness of the device fool you to think its fragile, because it is not.
The LG gram 13 is encased in a nano-carbon magnesium shell that has seen it pass the MIL-STD 810G durability test.
