President Uhuru Kenyatta today attended the CBC Training Conference at KICC. Below is a summary of his speech on abolition of national examinations, the role of teachers and parents on Competency based curriculum implementation.
Abolition national examination to transition to secondary school
For CBC Grade 7, 8, and 9 and transition from primary to secondary school, president Uhuru Kenyatta said; “Grade 7,8,9 should be domiciled in our secondary schools. There will be no examinations in standard six to ensure 100 pc transition to secondary schools”
Role of teachers in CBC implementation
On the role of teachers, the president indicated that; “Teachers should be the greatest warriors to help us reshape our curriculum to ensure our children become achievers. We should train and impart knowledge that our children can use to become positive contributors to themselves and the society”
Parents Role on Competency Based Curriculum implementation
Parents also have a role to play in the Competency Based Curriculum implementation and the president had this to say about them “To parents don’t put pressure on our children, they don’t even rest during holidays. Let us nurture the talents God has given them as opposed to imposing on them“.
Why force our children to become doctors yet they are gifted differently. Some are gifted in music, others could be computer scientists coming up with latest technologies like the late Steve Jobs. Let our children be”

The president concluded his speech by indicating that we need education that is practical and hands on. We need a curriculum that will manage our diversity.
