Technical University of Mombasa administration has called for the re-opening of the university. A statement sent to the press read: “The Technical university of Mombasa (TUM) wishes to announce to all students that the university re-opening dates are as follows:
- Masters degree and Base Titanium students, KNEC candidates (Wednesday 4th November, 2015)
- All 1st and 2nd year students (Monday 9th November, 2015)
- All 3rd, 4th and 5th year students (Monday 16th November, 2015)
All students will be required to;
i. Pay a penalty of Ksh. 2,650= each to cater for damages caused during the unrest.
ii. Clear any outstanding fees before re-admission and
iii. Sign an indemnity form on re-admission.
KUCCPs statistics indicate that Technical University of Mombasa admitted about 1,300 first years in 2015 (This is exclusive of private students). If you multiply this by a fine of 2,650 that each student is supposed to pay and group of students that are in campus you will arrive at about ksh. 17 million. This is exclusive of private sponsored students.
