The 2017 general elections are just 830 days ahead as from today-April 30, 2015. We are therefore looking at politicians that command a lot of influence in Kenya as per the approximated number of followers behind them. According to The IEBC 2013 presidential elections results CORD’s Raila Odinga garnered 5,340,546 Votes while Jubilee’s Uhuru Kenyatta garnered 6,173,433 Votes.
The results of the 2013 Presidential Election were determined by the votes of the rich vote six Ethnic groups: Kikuyu, Luyha, Kalenjin, Luo, Kamba, and Kisii. Below are individuals who command a lot of influence in the six named tribes.
1. Uhuru Kenyatta
He is the kingpin of the Kikuyu Community with a population of 6,622,576 people and an approximate registered 3.8 million kikuyu voters.
2. Moses Wetangula
Although the likes of Boni Khalwale, Ababu Namwamba, Musalia Mudavadi and Wyliffe Oparanya exist. Moses Wetangula is the apparent kingpin of the Luhya community with a population of 5,338,666 people and an approximate registered 1.9 million Luhya voters.
3. William Ruto
Although he is facing a threat from the ever rising Gideon Moi and Isaac Rutto, William Ruto is the apparent kingpin of the Kalenjin community with a population of 4,967,328 people and an approximate registered 1.8 million Kalenjin voters.
4. Raila Odinga
Raila Odinga is perhaps the undisputable kingpin of the Luo community with a population of 4,044,440 people and an approximate registered 1.7 million Luo voters
Kalonzo Musyoka
Although he is facing a threat from the ever rising Alfred Mutua, Kalonzo Musyoka remains to be the kingpin of the Kamba community with a population of 3,893,157 people and an estimated registered 1.6 million Kamba voters
5. Ali Hassan Joho
Many might say it is Aden Duale, but Ali Hassan Joho controls a larger Somalia community audience compared to Duale. Somalia Community has a population of 2,385,572 people and an estimated 1.1 registered voters.
6. Simeon Nyachae
Kisii tribe is one of those tribes in Kenya that has not yet produced a new kingpin after the exit of Simeon Nyachae from politics. The rich Simeon Nyachae who owns almost three quarters of Kisii region is still the kingpin of the Kisii community with a population of 2,205,669 people and an approximate registered 700 kisii voters
The above statistics of population of different tribes in Kenya are based on the data collected during the 2009 census and released on August 31, 2010 and therefore their might be a significant change in population.
