The taskforce on education has put forward a proposal in which it suggests centralizing the management of Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) under one overall Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and one management board, similar to how the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) operates. Currently, each TTC has its own Principal who acts as the CEO and its own board.
Under the proposed arrangement, there would be one main TTC, akin to the Nairobi-based KMTC, and the other colleges would function as campuses. This means that the main TTC would serve as the central hub for management and decision-making, while the remaining colleges would operate under its umbrella.
By centralizing the management of TTCs, the proposal aims to streamline operations, enhance coordination, and create a more cohesive system. Having a single CEO and management board overseeing all TTCs would likely lead to greater consistency in policies, procedures, and curriculum implementation across the various institutions.
The proposal of centralizing management has already been successfully implemented by the KMTC. It has proven effective in managing medical training colleges throughout the country, ensuring standardized training and quality control.
If the proposal is implemented, the main TTC would likely become the focal point for strategic planning, resource allocation, and overall governance of teacher training colleges. The affiliate campuses would continue to function as individual training centers but with key policy decisions coming from the central management office in Nairobi.
