The Taita Taveta County ODM Nominations were conducted on Tuesday 18th April 2017, and we will be updating the winners and losers once the returning officer releases them. (NOTE: We have updated the results below)
The Most hotly contested seat in the Taita Taveta ODM primaries was that of the gubernatorial position where two political rivals, Incumbent governor John Mruttu and Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu were battling it our for the ODM ticket.
Taita Tavet County has 4 constituencies ( Taveta Constituency, Wundanyi Constituency, Mwatate Constituency and oi Constituency) and is perceived to be an ODM stronghold according to the 2013 presidential elections results where Raila Odinga received more votes than Uhuru.
Political profile of Governor John Mruttu
Governor John Mruttu was elected as the first Governor of Taita Taveta county in March 2013 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). Governor John Mruttu has had less political interactions and this is the first political leadership that he has led.
Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu
Was elected as member of parliament for Wundanyi constituency in 2007 under the Orange Democratic movement and has since held the position to date after being re-elected again in the march 2013 general elections.
Results of Taita Taveta ODM Nomination
- Thomas Mwadeghu: 18,421 votes
- Governor John Mruttu: 15,911 votes
NOTE: ODM indicates that the results are not final as we are still waiting for some constituency in Taita Taveta to vote for their votes to be included.
