Kenya Forest Service Statement On Shooting Incident At Makunga Forest Block, Saboti, Trans Nzoia County
Kenya Forest Service attention has been drawn to a report circulating in mainstream and social media, alleging that KFS officers shot and killed a form 3 student on a private farm.
The Service seeks to clarify that the unfortunate incident occurred at Makunga Forest block of Saboti Forest Station within Trans Nzoia County on 7th April, 2025, at around 0800hrs. Forest Rangers were in the course of law enforcement to flush out invaders who had intruded on forest land to cultivate and erect structures. The Rangers were confronted by individuals armed with crude weapons, and during the melee, one person was fatally injured by a suspected stray bullet.
The land in question is a gazetted forest under the management of the Kenya Forest Service. Consequently, allegations that the victim was killed at a private farm are misleading and not factual.
The matter is under investigation, and the Service is cooperating with the National Police Service and is at the forefront to ensure justice is served to the victim.
