South Sudan Government Changes Tune, Says It Will Now Accept The Congolese Deportee From US
South Sudan Government changes tune, says it will now accept the Congolese Deportee from US in order to improve its relation with United States government. South Sudan had earlier denied the deportee, claiming he was a citizen of DRC. This led to the US revoking all visas for South Sudanese passport holders.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan wishes to formally communicate the recent decision by the Government regarding an individual deported from the United States, who was denied entry at Juba International Airport on April 5 and April 6, 2025.
In the spirit of the existing friendly relations between South Sudan and the United States, the Government of the Republic of South Sudan has clarified that it denied entry to an individual misidentified as a South Sudanese national. The individual in question is Makula Kintu, a citizen of the Democratic Republic of Congo, who used a South Sudanese travel document issued under the name Nimeri Garang. Upon verification, South Sudanese authorities confirmed Kintu's Congolese nationality and returned him to the sending country for further processing.
The Government of the Republic of South Sudan remains committed to facilitating the return of verified South Sudanese nationals who are scheduled for deportation from the United States. It has issued emergency travel documents for 21 out of 23 individuals identified by American authorities and emphasizes its ongoing cooperation with the U.S. on deportation matters.
