National University Student Union (NUSO) moves to conduct elections ahead of Barack Obama arrival

kuso and nuso student leaders

Shortly after Kenya University Students Organization (KUSO) conducted its elections NUSO has also organized to conduct its elections heightening the battle between the two student organizations ahead of President Barack Obama’s tour to Kenya

The question that many have been asking is which is the valid University Student Union in Kenya? KUSO or NUSO? NUSO was established on 1st April 2014 while KUSO has been in existence for quite a long time.

National University Student Union (NUSO) is headed by former Moi university student organization secretary general Nathaniel AKadima and has announced that it will conduct a democratic countrywide student elections. KUSO on the other hand conducted its elections and elected Babu Owino as chairman and Steve Mbogo as patron. However, there have been claims that KUSO leaders were picked and not elected (Check here for full list of elected KUSO leaders).

It should be remembered that when Barack Obama visited Kenya before becoming president of the United States he met with some outstanding students in Kenya. Barack Obama is also the founder of Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) which clearly indicates his willingness to support young African leaders.
