Moi University Student Organization (MUSO) 2016 elections
Moi University student elections will be going down this week and two teams have emerged that have for years never been seen in MUSO elections. Kikuyu(s) who have been known to be rivals with Luo(s) both in national and campus politics have come together and formed a coalition as Kalenjin(s) join hands with the Luhyas.
Past elections in Moi University have seen Luhya, Luo and Kisii join hands to form a coalition that battled with the Kikuyu and Kalenjin coalition. 2015 MUSO elections saw the Luo, Luhya and Kisii coalition sweep almost all sits leaving the Kalenjin+Kikuyu’s frustrated.
Kalenjins student elders have indicated that in the 2015 MUSO elections Kikuyu(s) violated an agreement they had signed with them in the last minutes which led to their massive defeat. That forced them to form a coalition with Luhyas in the 2016 elections.
The most contested position is that of chair which Kikuyu, Luo, Kisii have decided to support Henry Ouma Rathore while the Kalenjin(s) and Luhya are finalizing on whether to support Towett Ng’etich or Shem Albert.
Other tribes not mentioned have been known to play a divided position in moi university politics. Their votes are not pegged to any coalition.
