The statement bout the impending university student protest over HELB disbursement delay below was shared by Babu Owino the current SONU Chair. The statement reads;

“It is with heavy displeasure and dismay that we (The Leadership of the Kenya University Students Organization-KUSO) write to bring to your notice our intention to stage a peaceful and bloodless demonstration scheduled Tuesday 22. September 2015.

The demonstration against HELB will be effected across Kenya’s major cities and towns and may disrupt business in a very unusual way. For the HELB loan to serve its intended purpose in our students’ critical academic life, it must be accessible to the students when they need it most. However, since our universities reopened over a full moon ago, no student has received even a shilling from HELB. Consequently, most students haven’t reported to the, respective campuses and are languishing in their villages under the sweltering heat of confusion, poverty, disease, insecurity and discomfiture.

The HELB CEO, Mr. Aaron Theophilus Ringera, left for the USA with the prime aim of tracking HELB Loan defaulters. However, we have reliable information that the HELB CEO is not committed to his ambitious agenda and is merely buying time. The HELB CEO is aimlessly moving around American ghettoes sampling traditional Chinese foods and taking selfies with inconsequential American Deejays. He is busy engaging hungry students in useless WhatsApp discussions, yet students continue wasting valuable learning time as a result of his incompetence. This must stop.

In clear, unambiguous and unmistakable terms, we have notified the police of our intention to demonstrate and picket. Fortunately, the police have agreed to offer protection to the over 107,404 students that have so far confirmed the, participation in tomorrow’s HELB demonstration. Be assured that we are Law abiding citizens and we shall continue to abide by the provisions of the Law. However, we’re always guided by our Principle of Injury to one, injury to all” and we shall no longer tolerate any attempt to unlawfully starve any of our comrades. Yours in Struggle for a better Kenya, Signed
BABU OWINO, PRESIDENT KUSO/CHAIRMAN SONU”
