Former and 3rd president of Kenya Mwai Kibaki left for Uganda early Friday to launch a $50 million (ksh 4.577 billion) Library. The launch of the historic US$50million H.E. Mwai Kibaki Presidential Library is in honour of Mwai Kibaki as an illustrious and outstanding alumnus of Makerere University from year 1951-1955.
The library will be opened on February 13, 2015 by H.E Mwai Kibaki, his excellency the president of Uganda Yoweri Museveni, Makerere University vice Chancellor Prof. George Mondo Kagonyera among other high profile guest.
Makerere University, Prof. George Mondo Kagonyera said, H.E. Mwai Kibaki Presidential Library will contain two main sections. The H.E. Mwai Kibaki Endowed Chair in Economics section and The East African Mwai Kibaki Centre for Leadership, Public Finance and Public Policy section. The H.E. Mwai Kibaki Endowed Chair in Economics section will be held by an internationally credentialed and globally competitive Professor of Economics while the East African Mwai Kibaki Center for Leadership, Public Finance and Policy section will, among other things, provide a unique forum for equipping and re-tooling African Ministers of Finance and Permanent Secretaries including Secretaries to Treasury.
Makerere University chose Third President of Kenya out of all her alumni because H.E. Mwai Kibaki was the first African to graduate with a 1st Class Honours Degree in the Arts in 1955 as well as the first African to graduate with distinction in the BSc Public Finance programme at the London School of Economics (LSE) in 1958.
H.E. Mwai Kibaki Presidential Library will be used to tell the story of African excellence.
