Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has today announced that primary and secondary schools will start receiving their capitation funds on Friday, June 9, 2023. He made the announcement in response to a question posed by KUPPET chair and Member of Parliament for Emuhaya Constituency, Omboko Milemba, during a parliamentary questions session regarding the delay in releasing the capitation funds to schools.
CS Machogu explained that the capitation funds were initially scheduled to be released by the National Treasury on Friday, June 2, 2023. However, there was a delay in the disbursement process, which caused the funds to be withheld.
The Education CS disclosed that he held a meeting with the Principal Secretary for National Treasury, Chris Kiptoo, earlier in the day. During the meeting, Kiptoo assured the ministry that Ksh. 28 billion in school capitation funds would be released tomorrow (June 8, 2023).
CS Machogu expressed regret for the delay and apologized for the inconvenience the delay has caused schools. The CS emphasized that by the end of the week, all schools would have received their second-term capitation funds.
