The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary-general Wilson Sossion has issued new strike notice over lack of inclusion of sufficient money in the 2017/2018 budget for the employment of newly trained teachers.

While speaking in Koibeyon Mixed Day and Boarding Secondary School in Bomet where he was attending a prize giving ceremony, Mr. Wilson Sossion said that KNUT expected the government to set aside atleast ksh. 18 billion in the budget that was read in March 2017 to cater for the employment of over 90,000 teachers but only ksh. 2 billion was set aside which is only enough to hire 5,000 teachers.

While reading the 2017/2018 Budget in parliament, National Treasury CS Henry Rotich indicated quote unquote, “To further increase the ratio of teacher to student, I have set aside Ksh 2 billion for the recruitment of additional teachers”
The KNUT secretary general has warned the government to be prepared for a strike beginning next month failure to employ new trained teachers as earlier agreed.
