Former outspoken University of Nairobi student Organization Chair, SONU, Zack Kinuthia has been appointed as CAS Education. He will be assisting CS George Magoha at the ministry of education. It is interesting to note that when Zack Kinuthia was a student leader at UON, Prof Magoha was the Vice Chancellor.

Who is Zack Kinuthia?

Zack Kinuthia served as the student leader (SONU Chair) at the University of Nairobi. Babu Owino who is now the MP For Embakasi East took over from Zack Kinuthia.

Since retiring from University politics and completing his undergraduate studies from UON, Zack Kinuthia has worked as a youth leader at various levels.

He has been a vocal supporter of president Uhuru Kenyatta, appearing on TVĀ  and Radio shows to defend his political agenda and policies.

His nomination, appears to be a reward for his effort to defend president Uhuru Kenyatta’s political and development agenda.

What are the functions of CAS at the ministry of education?

Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) at the ministry of educationĀ  plays the role of Ā assisting the cabinet secretary in coordinating the running of the ministry. They are like assistant ministers but with less responsibilities.

This role is however not defined in Kenyaā€™s 2010 constitution. The position was created by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2018 for regional balance.

Zack kinuthia deserves the appointment. Not as a reward but his arguments towards Kenya’s politics impress me.
