Rugby players Alex Mahaga and Frank Wanyama have been sentenced by Kenyan court to 15 years in jail over rape after being found guilty of the offense.

Rugby Players Rape Case: How it started

Alex Mahaga Olaba and Lawrence Frank Wanyama were Kenya Harlequin FC rugby players. On February 10, 2018, the two Rugby players are said to have gone to attend a birthday party of musician identified in court as W.A.

After partying, they (the ruby players and the lady) would on that fateful day leave to their residential place, Seefa apartment in Highrise while intoxicated as reported.

The two are then accused of taking advantage of the lady’s state (drunk) and raping her. As narrated by the lady, she did not report the matter to the police until the time she found out that she was pregnant, after a pregnancy test.

On his part, Frank Wanyama insistent that she did not rape the lady, it was a consensual affair.

Charging of the Rugby Players

DCI begun investigations on the case and in April 2018, the two Rugby players were charged in court and the case was heard on May 2018.

On 9th August 2019, Alex Mahaga and Frank Wanyama were found guilty of rape.  While reading the judgment at Milimani Law Courts,  chief magistrate Martha Mutuku agreed with the prosecution’s argument that the two were aware of what they were doing.

The Rugby players were on on Friday 16th August 2019 sentenced to a 15 years each in jail.
