UASU: University Lecturers to begin strike over salary Increment, CBA row

cs Fred Matiang'i

Public University Lecturers in Kenya are set to begin their strike on night of Wednesday January 2017 over the governments’ failure to fulfill a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) they signed a year ago.

Speaking through the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) chair Muga Kolale, the union indicated that they have no option but call off teaching in the university until the CBA is fulfilled by the government.

In the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), the union wants the lowest lecturer to be paid ksh. 350,000 month while a full/senior professor to be paid ksh. 1.9 million per month. The Union is however ready for a counter offer and salary harmonization.
