Every Friday kenyayote highlights the young entrepreneur of the week in Kenya. This is one way of inspiring Kenyan youths to follow the entrepreneur route. Otherwise you will graduate from university or college and find yourself in NYS with a class eight drop out.

In our young entrepreneur of the week today we are focusing on 26 year old Joy Thuo who is a Moi University Business Administration graduate. Joy Thuo grows strawberry, grapes, spinach, passion fruits and Kale. However, today we are going to focus on her strawberry farming.

Joy has a small plot in Kasaarani that she acquired from her father. She sells strawberry fruits and seedlings. She sells at least 1200 seedlings per week at ksh. 20 per seedling which translates to about 24,000 per week.

Due to expansion of her business and lack of enough land for expansion, Joy uses tins, soda crates and plastic bags to grow the seedlings.  She grows her crops on volcanic rock particles that she collects from Mt Longonot.  Joy indicates that volcanic rocks  are good to use for farming because they hold water longer and encourage  the growth of bacteria.

Stop dreaming of success, wake up and start working hard to achieve your goal.
