What is TPD?

TPD stands for Teacher Professional Development.  It is a mandatory teacher training programme introduced by the ministry of education in-conjunction with Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Aim of TPD

The aim of TPD To develop and implement a Performance Management Framework for teachers at the school level.

Training needs and professional development gaps for teachers shall be identified from TPAD, through the individual teachers and their supervisors

TPD Training

Teachers will take part in a training divided into 7 module levels. There will be online and face face trainings.

Training  will be conducted by lecturers from Kenyatta University, Mount Kenya University, Riara University and the Kenya Education Management Institute.

Training Locations

Face to face sessions will be undertaken at the 290 sub-county training centres across the country when teachers are on their holiday.

At the end of the training teachers will be issued with Transcripts at the end of each chapter and Certificates upon completion of each module level.

TPD training Fee Payment

Each teacher will have to pay a fee of Kenya Shillings 6000 per year to take part in the training. Payment will be made through the school heads.

Teacher training for the programme will begin on April 2020.

Benefits of TPD Training

TPD  goes to the grassroots level. It will among other factors be used to determine teacher teacher performance and thus promotion.
