Safaricom has released a statement acknowledging that they are experiencing issues with Mpesa paybill payments, resulting in some Mpesa transactions not being completed. Safaricom says the cause of the problem was network intermittency (unstable connection).
The issue affects both offline and online Mpesa payments. If you are a business using the Mpesa API to process payments, you might want to confirm whether there are any payments made by customers whose order were not completed.
If you are a customer who made any payments online on January 22, you might need to follow up with your organization to ensure that the payment is reflected.
Bank to Mpesa and Mpesa to Bank withdrawals and deposits were also affected.
The outage started on the 22nd, was resolved, and again reoccurred on the 23rd as reported by Safaricom.
