The Ministry of Education has banned mock and joint examinations in secondary and primary schools in Kenya.

In a circular sent to sub-county directors of education by the Ministry of Education PS Belio Kipsang, the government says that the ban of mock and joint exams was occasioned by the finding of the parliamentary education committee which shows that mock and joint exams are associated with unrest in boarding schools due to the pressure they put on students

The PS also said that joint exams were affecting school calendars as teachers were paying too much attention to the school performance in such exams at the expense of the school calendar.

The ban extends to various inter-school examinations and competitions, including Mathematics competitions.

The government has warned that principals or head teachers found to be conducting mock exams will face disciplinary action.

Sub-county directors of education have been mandated with the responsibility of enforcing the policy.
