Magoha on funding private schools for CBC implementation

While inspecting the construction of CBC classrooms in Mang’u High Schools, CS Magoha had this to say, “If a Kenyan chooses to take a child to a private school, with all humility, let that Kenyan pay for it. It is a matter of choice.”

He continued to say, “I am asking those private schools who feel they want to take part in implementing Junior secondary, they can create standalone junior secondary schools in their primary or secondary schools but at their own cost.

CS Magoha was responding to a concern raised by Kenya Private School Association that most private schools were struggling to raise funds for building classes for junior secondary schools.

The government has a set-aside about Kenya shillings 10 billion to build classes for junior secondary schools in public schools. Junior secondary school studies (from Grade 7)  are expected to begin in 2023.
