Yesterday night Google unveiled a myriad of new products ranging from phones to an AI camera. The hugely televised press conference held at the SFJazz Center, San Francisco, comes hot on the heels of Apple and Amazon’s events. Here are the new products announced in the press conference.
Pixel 2
Building upon the original Google Pixel’s fame, the Pixel 2 comes in two variants; 5” or 6” XL. Features include a water and dust-proof (IP67) aluminum body, curved edge-to-edge OLED display, front stereo speakers, a fingerprint sensor at the back and superfast charging.
Notably, the Pixel 2 lacks a headphone jack. Users can however connect via the USB-C port. Its camera is probably the best on the market with fused image stabilization.
DXOMark announced that it scored an impressive 98 on its benchmark tests. The Pixel 2 will be available from 19th October and price will start at $649. The Pixel 2 XL will retail at $849 from November 15.
Pixel Buds
The wireless headphones can translate over 40 languages live. They are connected to each other via tethering. The Pixel Buds will be available in November for $159.
Google Pixelbook
This is a markedly vast improvement of the Chromebook. The Pixelbook has 12.3” touchscreen, supports customization with Core i5 and i7 processors.
RAM can be scaled up to 16GB and solid-state storage can be up to 512GB. You can use the Pixelbook as a laptop, tablet, flick the keyboard and use it as a stand.
The basic model will be available from 31st October and will be retailing at $999.
Daydream VR headset
The 2017 version now has a wider field of view and more colours when compared to the 2016 Daydream headset. It will be available from October 19 at $99.
Google Home Mini
Google Home is Google’s voice-activated smart speaker. The donut-sized miracle pod comes wrapped in fabric with the LED lights hidden beneath the surface.
It will come in three colours (black, grey and orange) and will be available for retail from 19th October at $49.
Google Home Max
The Home Max is larger and has superior sound quality than the Mini. It can now attach onto any surface using embedded magnets. It can also stand vertically or horizontally.
Connectivity is via Cast, Aux-in and Bluetooth. It will come in two colours (chalk grey and charcoal black) and will be available for retail from December at $399

Google Clips
This is a camera that clips onto any object and automatically takes photos using in-built machine learning. The nifty AI camera can take up to three hours of video and select the best clips for you.
It has status indicator that lets everyone know when it’s on. It will be available for $249 at an unspecified date.
Google’s New Products: Pixel 2, Pixel Buds, Pixelbook, Daydream VR headset, Home Mini and Max
