Holiday Destinations: Lamu county is an awesome place found in the coastal region of Kenya. It’s the oldest known Swahili settlement in Eastern Africa Though its small, it has a good deal of places to visit this festive December season. Here are some of them.
To begin with, the county is a beautiful scenery on its own, surrounded by pretty nice-looking ocean water. Its beautiful landscape with nicely designed buildings is enough a reason to visit it.
- Swahili Museum
It has a wonderful view which it derives from the uniqueness of its architectural design. A visit to the museum will be a learning experience for you since you’ll be told about the emergence and growth of the Swahili culture; which is abundant in Lamu county.
- The beach
You can also opt to spend your time on the beach. Swimming, sun bathing, playing and even simply chilling are just but a few of the activities awaiting you by the ocean-side.
For those who have never been to the beach before, have my word that it’s a place you will not want to get away from.
- Beachside Resorts
There are many fully-equipped and comfortable beachside resorts in Lamu. They offer spacious accommodation, food and room/space for relaxing. Most of them also serve delicious local food as well as other foodstuffs of your choice.
- Lamu Fort
Located in Lamu Town, the fort is a re-known heritage site worldwide. It was built from 1813 – 1821. The two-storey building was built with awesome Swahili architecture design and it now serves both as a museum and a library
