Litein High School students have today gone on rampage and burned one of their dormitories. The Kericho County Government fire brigade managed to promptly respond and contained the fire. No casualties have been reported as a result of the incident.
The students’ rampage is said to be caused by the student’s dissatisfaction with the recent changes in entertainment schedules. The students want entertainment time to revert to what it was before changes were made by the school principal.
This incident comes shortly after the school had just reopened a week ago following another student strike that resulted in the temporary closure of the institution.
One teacher and several students have been arrested in connection to today’s incident.
The repeated strikes at Litein Boys raise concerns about the underlying issues within the institution. It is evident that there is a disconnect between the student’s expectations and the school administration’s decisions regarding entertainment schedules.
Local leaders have asked the school administration, the county government, alumni, and other relevant stakeholders to initiate an investigation to understand the root causes of the unrest and address them.
