Bridge International School has ‘temporarily lay off’ its staff. This follows the current situation of the Coronavirus pandemic that is getting worse every day globally.
Memo to Staff
In a memo sent to the staff, bridge indicated that the compulsory two months leave will take effect from 1st April 2020 to 31st May 2020. However, the institution has stated that it will retain a few number of its staff that will be available to provide essential services that the schools may require.
The leave is meant to reduce office operation as the school is currently offering zero services since the students are away. Staff in this institution were given clear information that the compulsory leave was unpaid. However, they will receive a monthly gratuitous payment equivalent to 10 percent of their salary while on compulsory leave. The staff will also continue to receive the privileges of their health care insurance from the company.
The Academy has joined the list of different companies that have sent their staff home during this period of the Coronavirus crisis. Some of these companies like Kenya Airways have pushed their workers to take huge pay cuts in their monthly salary.
The pandemic has so far claimed more than 20 000 lives globally leaving hundreds of thousands nursing the disease. Kenya has confirmed 31 positive cases in different counties with only one fatality.
Bridge International Academies
Bridge International Academies has its network spread in at least 40 counties in Kenya. It is has become the first private academic institution to take the move since the Government issued the directive to shut down all schools.
